Job Description: Electrical Systems Design Engineer
General:
Life-cycle responsibility for electrical control systems for a range of marine systems - Specification, costing, design, commissioning, and fault finding on installed systems.
Lead for electrical systems projects. Involved in many R&D projects looking for quick solutions to many engineering challenges, necessitating researching subjects outside of current experience to produce an informed decision and action.
Hands-on, when required able to build prototypes and solutions.
Reporting to Line Manager or Head of Design, working as part of the Design Team group.

Hands-on, when required able to build prototypes and solutions.
Reporting to Line Manager or Head of Design, working as part of the Design Team group.
Detail:
- Design and develop electrical circuit diagrams, using both Autocad and Autocad electrical.
- PLC programming using Siemens or Mitsubishi software
- HMI Design
- 3 phase, single phase and DC motor control design
- Develop, test and commission custom designed installations
- Produce system costings and
- Design switching circuits and controls for AC motor drives.
- Design switching circuits and controls for DC motor drives, split field motors, permanent magnet motors and series wound motors.
- Selection and specification of fuses, circuit breakers, switches, cabling and ancillary electrical parts.
- Integrating and interfacing with hydraulics and hydraulic circuits.
- When required use serial communications networks, particularly Canbus and/or AS-I networks
- Design switching systems for Brushless DC motor and controls.
- Trouble-shoot electrical systems both in-house and on customer equipment.
- Assist with testing and electrical set-up of systems.
- Programming in embedded C
- Travel when required, including outside of the UK.
- Any ad-hoc duties as your line manager requests.
