Job Title: Boatyard Operative

Reporting to: Deputy Harbour Master

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday with occasional weekend working.

Duties will include:

· Operating of the boat hoist, telehandler, forklift and boat mover.

· To work as a team in the lifting/washing, blocking off, cross-bracing and launching of boats in a controlled, safe and considered manner.

· Complete daily lifting equipment, plant and machinery inspections and records in compliance with company policy and regulatory requirements.

· Ensure all works undertaken within the boatyard are accurately recorded and passed to the administration team to recover all revenues owed.

· Along with the Deputy Harbour and boatyard team, plan the positioning of boats within the yard to allow maximum capacity and least amount of disruption to customer.

· Prepare for all boat lifting operations prior to the day of lift, highlighting any potential issues that may arise to the Deputy Harbour Master.

· If required, create a lift plan and method statement

· Ensure all vessels comply with boat lifting regulations by undertaking final pre-lift checks prior to boat lifting operations.

· To carry out the un-stepping and re-stepping of boat masts as and when required.

· Ensure all boats stored ashore are checked regularly especially when extreme weather is forecast.

· To make sure all cradles, blocks, shores and wedges are stored in their respective areas.

· Collect and return boats from berths as and when required, ensuring they are berthed as per the customer’s instructions.

· To maintain the yard in a clean and tidy condition and carry out regular inspections of all areas including parking of cars in designated parking bay.

· To notify the Deputy Harbour Master of any incidents, maintenance requirements as and when required.

· To ensure all persons operating within the yard are adhering to company Health and Safety policies and procedures.

· To undertake any other duties as required by the Harbour Master or Deputy Harbour Master.

Person specification:

Essential

· Certification in plant and equipment, equivalent to NPORS or the equivalent CPCS tickets for boat hoist, boat mover, telehandler, forklift truck, banksman/slinger.

· Minimum 2 years’ experience working within a boatyard environment.

· An understanding of boating, with an appreciation of the range of recreational vessel types and associated customer needs. To include construction materials and methods of build.

· Experience in securing vessels ashore using a range of methods, cradles, timber shoring, blocking and motorboat stands.

· Understanding of Marina Regulations and Regulatory Policies.

· RYA Level 2 Powerboat Certification.

· A Full UK Driving Licence.

· Ability to undertake outdoor physical work.

· Able to swim.

Desirable

· Experience of managing a lift and storage plan

A flexible approach towards working times is required. At times, it will be required to work additional hours during peak busy periods or special events and is on call in times of an emergency or bad weather.
