Marine Electronics Technical Engineer - Aftersales

Background
This leading privately owned company manufacture instruments for the high-end yacht market of Superyachts and race boats.

In its first three years of trading it has developed a leading position and full range of instruments with equipment on over 250 of the world's largest and fastest yachts.

Their overriding goals are highest quality engineering, very good support and service.

Sales have grown rapidly to a run-rate of £1m and they are now expanding our team to build sales on the achievements and proven market position of our first three years.

Role

Technical support
-First line of contact for telephone and email support for (but not for repairs)
-Add best' questions/solutions to technical notes library
-Updates to manual in response to received questions/answers
-Be able to commission and troubleshoot processor installation
-Be early line of support for Teamviewer session on client systems for commissioning and troubleshooting

Build knowledge and technical notes library
-Use every opportunity to build comprehensive knowledge of systems and legacy systems (and in many cases their interaction)
-Build good understanding of the many data transfer protocols in the market including CANbus/N2K, NMEA0183, Ethernet, analogue, sonar, wind-sensors, load-amplifiers
-Build (with assistance) each product that they make and be able to update firmware in all products and to assist clients in doing this
-Build advanced knowledge of interfacing their Processor with Expedition (and in due course Adrena)
-Build technical notes library to help successor(s), put onto website and send to dealers
-Contribute to regular technical bulletins sent to dealers

System drawings
-Determine which drawing software we should standardise on taking into account interoperability with our (dealer) clients, cost and ease of use
-Build library of symbols and send to installers in various formats
-Set up a house style' for system drawings taking into account the shortcomings of the current ones.
-Produce system drawings to support quotes as needed, both yours and those done by others.

Quotations and sales emails
-Be able to draft why go the company way' emails with reasoning specific to prospective client
-Do the supporting drawing for this
-Produce supporting quotation; get reviewed and signed off.
-Be able to check other peoples quotes and orders and sign thee off
-First line of response to eg I am captain of Husiman 55m and our xxx needs replacing ……….' Emails or phone enquiries.

Sales trips & Exhibitions
-Going to regattas to support existing and potential new clientsInitiating, planning and executing sales trips to visit key clients and dealers
-Planning and coordinating trips by other members of the team to key clients, dealers and regattas as appropriate
-Input to planning and then full participation in Exhibitions. At the moment they attend METS in Amsterdam in November and Palma Superyacht Show in April. This will be expanded slowly.

General input to Marketing and company direction
-Keeping CRM updated with your own work
-Improvements to technical aspects of the website
-Keep technical product sheets updated and initiate new ones as needed
-Input and participation in planned series of calibration tutorials/videos

You will must have a strong technical background in marine electronics, ideally navaigation, to be considered for this role.
